What is iCIMS?
iCIMS is one of the largest applicant tracking systems in the world, used by over 4,000 employers including United Airlines, Target, Petco, Dollar General, Aramark, Panera Bread, and Live Nation. If your application confirmation came from a hire.icims.com email address, or if the job portal URL contains "icims.com," you're in an iCIMS-managed hiring process.
Unlike Workday or Greenhouse, iCIMS gives candidates a login portal where you can check your application status directly. The URL is typically jobs.[companyname].com or a company-branded careers portal.
iCIMS application status meanings
New / Received
Your application has been submitted and entered the system. It has not yet been reviewed by a human. This is the default starting status for all applications. Many applications stay here for days to weeks depending on the volume the employer is managing.
In Review / Under Review
A recruiter or hiring coordinator has opened your application and is actively screening it against the job requirements. This is a positive step — it means you passed any automated pre-screening filters.
Under Consideration
You've passed initial recruiter review and are being considered for the next step. This is one of the stronger early-stage signals in iCIMS — it typically means your profile has been shared with or is being reviewed by the hiring manager. Expect contact within 1–2 weeks.
Interview Scheduled / Phone Screen
A recruiter has reached out or will reach out to schedule a call or interview. If this status appears but you haven't received a calendar invite, check your spam folder and the email you used to apply.
Assessment Sent
Some iCIMS-configured roles include a skills assessment or personality questionnaire. This status means the test has been sent to you. Check the email associated with your application.
Offer Extended
The company has decided to make you an offer. You should receive direct contact from a recruiter with the details. If you see this status but haven't heard from anyone in 24–48 hours, reach out proactively.
Hired
You've accepted an offer and the process is complete.
Withdrawn
You withdrew your application, or the system auto-withdrew it (which can happen if you didn't complete all required steps within a deadline).
Closed / Rejected / Not Selected
Your application has been removed from active consideration. iCIMS typically sends an automated rejection email at this point, though the timing varies. Some companies send these quickly; others wait until the role is filled entirely.
How to check your iCIMS status directly
iCIMS is one of the few ATS platforms that gives candidates a self-service status portal. Here's how to access it:
1. Go to the company's careers portal (the same page where you applied)
2. Click "Sign In" or "My Profile" — you should have received login credentials in your application confirmation email
3. Navigate to "My Jobs" or "My Applications" to see all submitted applications and their current status
If you applied as a guest and didn't create an account, you won't have portal access. In that case, status updates come via email from a hire.icims.com address — check your inbox and spam folder.
If you're seeing a status you don't recognise in the portal, the company may have customised their iCIMS pipeline with internal stage names. Contact the recruiter directly if you need clarification.
How long does each iCIMS stage take?
New → In Review: 3–21 days. Large employers (airlines, retail chains) with high application volumes take longer. Smaller companies move faster.
In Review → Under Consideration: 1–2 weeks in most cases. If it's been over 3 weeks and you haven't moved past "In Review," it's reasonable to send a brief follow-up email.
Under Consideration → Interview: 1–2 weeks. Some companies are faster if they're urgently filling the role.
Interview → Offer: 1–4 weeks depending on the number of rounds and how many decision-makers need to sign off.
Total iCIMS hiring cycle (application to offer): 4–10 weeks is typical for mid-to-large employers that use iCIMS. Retail and hospitality companies on iCIMS tend to move faster than corporate roles.
Still at "New" after two weeks?
If your iCIMS status has been "New" or "Received" for more than two weeks, one of these is likely true: the role has a high volume of applicants and review is ongoing, the role is on hold, or the posting was not filled off this applicant pool.
The most productive thing you can do is keep applying elsewhere. Treat every application — including iCIMS ones — as one data point in a larger pipeline. A status of "New" for three weeks is not a rejection, but it's also not a reason to stop searching.
